ARDF (Fox Hunting)

What is it?

Well first of all let me explain before i get loads of hate mail that it has nothing to do with the red'ish four legged type of fox,

It is as most of you know the art of locating a hidden transmitter by means of Radio Direction Finding,

You dont need to be a Licenced Amateur as your only recieving a signal and trying to locate the transmitter by taking several bearings (the more the better)

Again it’s a 3 hour hunt with a radius of 10miles of the start point, 10 miles doesn’t sound much until you look at a map and its quite a large area, It encompasses Stretham to the north, Gt Chesterford to the south, West beyond Bourn and Dullingham to the East,

It would be great to have as many people take part as possible, this should be a fun morning out and which I hope to be the first of a ongoing event during 2009,
Please show your support and have a go,
The details are below

Another Great Cambridge fox hunt,

will be held on Sunday the 31st of May 2009

Starting at 0930 local and culminating at 1230 local

The Rules are
In the interest of fair play all hunters should start from the same point,
Again I propose Sainsbury car park just off the roundabout of Coldhams
lane/Barnwell road, grid ref 52.20032N by 0.15791E. Post code CB1 3HP

My XYL Belinda M3VSF will be at the start point from 9am'ish to register the hunters
look for a black A3 audi

All hunters should be at the the Start point to registar before the 0930 start,

The fox will be within a 10 mile radius of the start point, in
a fixed location i.e. not moving, and be in easy reach by public
highway/right of way,

The fox will transmit MCW of CQ CQ THIS IS THE FOX CATCH ME IF YOU CAN DE 2E0MVB, at 15 WPM which gives a transmit duration of 32 seconds
And is repeated every 3 minutes on 145.25MHz using NFM mode and 5 Watts,

The fox may at his discretion increase or decrease the output power of the transmitter by +/- 3dB to cause confusion to the hunters,
The transmission shall begin at 0930 local on the 31st of May 2009 and
cease at 1230 local on the same day at which time the fox will give his
location by description, Locator and by grid ref,

The hunters that have found the fox before the 1230 close should not give the location to any other hunter,
If all hunters find the fox before the 1230 close of the hunt the event shall end when the last hunter find's the fox,

This Time as its the 3rd event I've arranged there may be a prize on offer for the 1st hunter to find the fox,
As well of course as the accolade of being the first to DF the fox,

I'm still learning with this so
any advice or idea's are most welcome
Please feel free to tell anyone you think would be interested,
de Steve 2E0MVB aka foxy
